What Colors Make Turquoise + My Favorite Brand of Turquoise Blue Paint

This post is all about turquoise – what colors make turquoise, the best turquoise blue paint on the market, and how to use turquoise to create unique and vibrant paintings. Let’s dive right on in!

What colors make turquoise

You may be wondering what colors make turquoise. Well the answer is simple! Turquoise is a blue-green color, so it can be created by mixing blue paint with green or by mixing blue paint with a small amount of yellow.

If you’re mixing turquoise paint, make sure not to mix too much yellow or the blue can quickly become full-on green. You want to make sure it still is mostly blue for a true turquoise.

The essential turquoise blue for acrylic painting

If you’re looking for the most perfect turquoise out there, I’d recommend Turquoise Blue acrylic paint by Liquitex. It’s one of my go-to blues and a color I use frequently both on its own and mixed.

I love how strong it is right out of the tube, and how versatile it can be when mixed with other colors. Just look how gorgeous it is when lightened up with some white paint! It’s giving robin’s egg realness!

Turquoise as an alternative to Primary Blue

Fun fact, turquoise is actually my preferred primary blue to use when mixing colors. I find that sometimes the standard primary colors can result in muddy colors when mixed.

When you veer off the traditional path, you’ll be surprised at the vibrant array of colors you can create! In this blog post about nontraditional primary colors, I share more about why I choose nontraditional primary colors and how you can find your own unique set of primaries to create color palettes that are completely unique!

Enjoy painting your fabulous turquoise creation!
